Hilltop Packs 24Seven Trail Backpack Review (2026): Who Is It Really For?

Our Hilltop Packs 24Seven Trail Backpack review examines its weight, capacity, materials, carry system, features and price to see who this trail pack suits.

By Moon PickePublished Oct 4, 2026Our review process

This Hilltop Packs 24Seven Trail Backpack review asks what the current 24Seven is actually designed for—and whether it matches your kit—using Hilltop Packs’ live product page, not a fabricated trail test. Moon Picke compared listed capacity, weight, fabrics, carry hardware, options, warranty, and price. We did not hike with this pack. See how we evaluate and our editorial standards.

Moon Picke’s Quick Take

Hilltop Packs lists the 24Seven Trail Backpack as a 24-liter internal pack (30 liters with pockets) in X-Pac VX21 and VX07, at 15 ounces and $352 for White & Black. Manufacturer copy positions it for everyday use, day hikes, and backpacking if your gear is already compact. Best for buyers whose pile fits that 24 L body and who want a lighter, simpler trail bag than a Raven. Main strength: a documented 15 oz start and a clear 24 / 5 / 0.5 L volume recipe. Main trade-off: no included hip belt, no listed load rating, and less volume than Dirty 30 or any Raven. Skip it if you need 35–50 L of main body, a padded belt, or Dyneema. This is a spec review, not a comfort diary.

What is the 24Seven Trail Backpack?

The live Shopify title is 24Seven Trail Backpack (Lightweight Everyday Hiking Pack). The body heading calls it the 24Seven Trail Edition Ultralight Backpack. The browser title calls it a 24L daypack. Moon Picke will not collapse those labels into one invented category. No V4 number. Colors: White & Black and Abstract Paint 1. Torso: 16″, 18″, 20″, 22″. The Shopify “ecopak” tag does not match the X-Pac VX21 & VX07 fabric sentence—use the copy. Hilltop does not explain the name “24Seven.” Everyday use is a separate intended-use sentence, not an etymology.

What is it actually designed for?

Manufacturer positioning (verbatim job of the page): “For those that want a smaller, ultralight, but durable pack choose the 24Seven made of Xpac.” Volume: 24 liters internal, 5 liters front, 0.5 liters each side, 30 liters total. “Great for every day use, day hikes, and backpackers who really have their gear dialed in.” Later: “designed for day hikes and backpacking trips for those who have their gear dialed in.” Product title: Lightweight Everyday Hiking Pack.

So Hilltop itself names three uses: everyday use, day hikes, and backpacking with a compact kit. It also uses “ultralight” and “24L Daypack” on the same listing. It does not call this a thru-hiking pack, a travel pack, or a framed multi-day expedition bag.

Moon Picke editorial interpretation: treat those three Hilltop uses as the working map. A 24 L main body can hold a day-hike pile easily on paper; it can hold an overnight only if shelter, sleep system, clothing, food, and water already fit. It is not “the Hilltop ultralight backpack” in the Raven sense. For the shop-wide lineup, see best Hilltop Packs backpacks.

Capacity

Hilltop’s recipe is explicit and internally consistent on this page—unlike some other Hilltop listings:

  • Main body: 24 liters internal
  • Front pocket: 5 liters
  • Side pockets: 0.5 liters each (1 L combined)
  • Total listed: 30 liters

Copy also calls it “this 24-liter pack,” which matches the internal figure, not the 30 L total. Compare body-to-body with other Hilltop packs: do not stack 24Seven’s 30 L total against a Raven 35 L main body or a Dirty 30 DETAILS line.

What that volume can support depends on your actual pile: shelter, sleep system, clothing, food, water, cook kit, season, and how compact the gear is. Moon Picke will not write “24 L = a three-day trip.” A bulky winter bag can overflow 24 L on a short overnight; a quilt, tiny tarp, and a day’s food can leave room. Measure the kit first.

Weight

Hilltop: “Weighs just 15 ounces.” No second range, no torso split, no print split. Moon Picke editorial conversion: 15 oz × 28.35 g ≈ 425 g.

A 1″ hip belt is a separate $10 accessory; Hilltop does not list the belt’s ounces on the 24Seven page. Abstract Paint 1 does not carry a second listed pack weight. Do not invent a 16″ vs 22″ gram table.

Fifteen ounces is light for a 24 L trail pack on paper. It is the same listed start as the bottom of Dirty 30 ECO’s 15–18 oz range, and below current Raven starts (~19 / ~20 / ~28 oz on D / ECO / X UL pages). Ounces are not a reason to ignore the 24 L body.

Material

Hilltop: durable X-Pac VX21 & VX07. It does not assign which panels are VX21 versus VX07, and it does not list fabric osy on this page. Fabric family: X-Pac laminates. Recycled content: NOT LISTED on the 24Seven page. Shopify’s “ecopak” tag is not a substitute for that sentence.

On paper: the finished pack is listed at 15 oz. Hilltop says durable but publishes no denier or tear numbers—do not call it indestructible. X-Pac VX21 is a waterproof-film laminate on the fabric maker’s sheet; the 24Seven page does not reprint seam-tape language. Mesh and roll-top still wet out. White & Black is $352; Abstract Paint 1 is $374.

Frame / support system

Hilltop does not call 24Seven frameless on this page. It also does not list a stay, framesheet, or hoop. What it does list: “Elastic cord sit pad holder for extra back cushion.” Official rear photos show a fabric back panel and padded shoulder straps, no visible frame member.

Editorial, labeled as such: the documented support is straps plus an optional sit pad you supply, not a published internal frame. That is not a Raven-copied “frameless” claim. Without a listed load rating, do not treat this as a heavy-load suspension.

Carry system, shoulder straps, and hip belt

Documented: “Single Strap” (the roll-top uses a single buckle strap in official photos). Open mesh front. Stretchy side pockets. Trekking-pole elastic holders. Sit-pad cord. No hip belt included.

Official rear photos show padded, segmented shoulder straps and a sternum-strap buckle. Sternum-strap width, padding thickness, and strap width in inches are NOT LISTED. Load lifters are NOT LISTED and are not obvious on those rear photos. Do not write that the straps are comfortable—that would be a wear test Moon Picke did not do.

Torso is chosen as 16″, 18″, 20″, or 22″. Hilltop does not reprint its Raven “if between sizes, go smaller” note on this page.

Hip belt: none in the base build. “A 1″ hip belt can be added.” The collection sells 1″ Hip Belt for Backpacks and Fanny Packs at $10, available. Padded 3″ Raven-style belts, belt pockets, and belt sizes are NOT LISTED as 24Seven options. Missing a substantial belt is a design choice for a 15 oz, no-rating pack—not automatically a defect. It does mean hip-load transfer is not in the stock configuration.

Pockets, storage, and trail features

Mapped from the current page and official photos: 24 L roll-top main; 5 L open mesh front with elastic cord; stretch sides at 0.5 L each (smaller than Raven’s 1 L sides); trekking-pole elastic holders listed. NOT LISTED: bottom pocket, hip-belt pockets, shoulder pockets, internal/zip pockets, hydration sleeve or port, ice-axe loop, daisy chain, dedicated side compression straps. Do not claim “easy to grab while hiking”—that is a motion test. Hilltop specifies open mesh to “help items dry faster.”

Closure

Official photos show a roll-top with a single top strap and buckle, matching “Single Strap.” Hilltop does not list a zipper main opening or a V4 swapable Y-strap kit. Trade-off on paper: roll-tops can change effective volume with how far you roll; they are not a waterproof zipper. Single-strap geometry is simpler than Raven V4’s documented single/Y swap.

Is the 24Seven Trail Backpack waterproof?

No. Hilltop’s shop-wide line is “highly water-resistant designs,” not a dry-bag rating for this SKU.

  • Fabric: X-Pac VX21 / VX07. VX21 includes a waterproof film on the fabric maker’s documentation. Hilltop does not reprint that paragraph here.
  • Seams: seam tape / sealing: NOT LISTED on the 24Seven page.
  • Closure: roll-top, not a sealed zipper.
  • Pockets: open mesh front will take water.

Waterproof film ≠ a fully waterproof finished backpack. Do not expect contents to stay dry without a liner. Moon Picke did not rain-test this bag.

Price: what are you paying for?

Checked October 4, 2026. Base / current White & Black: $352. Abstract Paint 1: $374 (+$22). No sale compare-at. Optional 1″ belt: $10 (separate product). Configured White & Black + belt = $362 editorial if you add that accessory.

For $352 you are paying for a Waynesburg, made-to-torso pack in listed VX21/VX07, 15 oz, the 24 / 5 / 0.5 / 30 L recipe, mesh front, stretch sides, pole holders, sit-pad cord, and a roll-top—not Raven volume, V4 zips, a padded belt, Dyneema, or a published load window. If you need 24 L, $352 is the lowest current in-stock Hilltop backpack list in this series. If you need Raven liters, cheaper-on-paper is irrelevant. Warranty: 5 years on most sewn products (wear excluded). Unused returns 60 days; buyer pays shipping. Backpack lead time currently up to six months.

Is 24Seven good for day hiking?

Official claim: Hilltop says it is designed for day hikes and is great for day hikes. Title: Lightweight Everyday Hiking Pack. Browser title: 24L Daypack.

Editorial, on specs: 24 L internal plus 5 L mesh is a plausible day-hike volume for layers, food, and water if bottles fit the 0.5 L side listing—or you put water inside. 15 oz is a light carry on paper. No hip belt in the base build is common on small trail packs; whether that matters depends on how much you put in it. Moon Picke is not rating all-day comfort.

Can you use 24Seven for backpacking?

Official claim: yes, with a condition. Hilltop: backpacking trips “for those who have their gear dialed in,” and “backpackers who really have their gear dialed in.”

Editorial: that condition is the whole story. If shelter + sleep + clothes + food + water already pack into a 24 L body, the listing matches. If they do not, buy a larger Hilltop pack instead of compressing a Raven-sized kit. No manufacturer load number exists to bless a heavy overnight. Adding the $10 1″ belt does not create a published rating.

Thru-hiking

Hilltop does not label 24Seven a thru-hiking pack. Shop-wide fabric copy mentions thru-hikers; that is not this SKU’s use sentence. Editorial only: a 24 L body works on a long trail only if resupply and sleep/shelter stay that small. Do not shop it as “the AT pack” on the name alone.

Everyday use

Hilltop does list everyday use. Features that make that claim internally consistent: 15 oz, 24 L body, roll-top, no mandatory hip belt. Travel, laptop, or commute use is not on the spec sheet. Moon Picke will not pad this review with airport scenarios.

24Seven vs Raven

Why choose 24Seven instead of a Raven? Because you want the smaller everyday / day-hike / dialed-overnight platform Hilltop wrote—not 44–59 L flagship volume. 24Seven: 24 L body / 30 L total, 15 oz, VX21 & VX07, no listed frame, no stock hip belt, $352 / $374. Raven: 35–50 L bodies / 44–59 L totals, from ~19–28 oz, Dyneema or EPLX200 or VX21, listed frameless with a hip-belt menu and load ratings, $395.50–$434.50. Choose 24Seven when Raven liters would sit empty. Choose Raven when you need that body ladder, a padded belt, or a published 25–30 lb comfort window. For D vs ECO vs X UL, see Raven D vs Raven ECO vs Raven X UL. VX21 also appears on the published Raven X UL review—different volume family, heavier listed pack.

24Seven vs Dirty 30 ECO

Do not treat 24Seven as a mini Dirty 30 without checking the sheets. Capacity: 24 L internal / 30 L total vs Dirty’s mixed 30 L internal / 33 L DETAILS body and 38 L intro total. Weight: 15 oz vs 15–18 oz. Material: VX21 & VX07 vs EPLX200. Both list no stock hip belt and a 1″ add-on. Dirty documents load lifters, ice-axe loop, and a bottom stretch pocket; 24Seven documents pole holders and sit-pad cord. Torso: 16–22″ steps vs Dirty S/M/L ranges. Price: $352 vs $385. 24Seven’s page pushes everyday and day hikes plus dialed backpacking; Dirty’s page does not use that everyday/daypack title set. Buy 24Seven for the 24 L X-Pac recipe and $352; Dirty 30 ECO for more documented body volume and EPLX200.

Pros

  • Listed 15 oz (about 425 g, editorial conversion).
  • Clear 24 / 5 / 0.5 / 30 L volume recipe.
  • Hilltop states everyday, day-hike, and dialed-backpacking uses in one place.
  • X-Pac VX21 & VX07 named—not inferred from another SKU.
  • Lowest current in-stock Hilltop backpack list price in this series ($352).
  • Exact-inch torso options; mesh front and pole holders documented.

Cons

  • 24 L body is too small for many overnight kits—even though Hilltop allows backpacking with dialed gear.
  • $352 is still a cottage price for a small pack.
  • No included hip belt; no listed load rating; no listed frame.
  • Side pockets listed at 0.5 L each—tighter than Raven’s 1 L sides.
  • No V4 extras, no fabric menu like Raven, no published seam-tape note on this page.

Buy the 24Seven Trail Backpack if…

  • Your measured kit fits 24 L internal (30 L with the listed pockets).
  • You want the mesh-front / small-side / pole-holder layout Hilltop documents.
  • Everyday use and day hikes are why you are shopping—because Hilltop wrote those uses.
  • You do not need Raven’s 35–50 L bodies, padded belt, or load ratings.
  • You want a 15 oz listed start and the $352 White & Black price.

Skip the 24Seven if…

  • You need more main-body volume (Dirty 30 or Raven territory).
  • You want a published comfort/max load or a padded hip belt as stock.
  • You specifically want Dyneema or printed EPLX200.
  • You need listed load lifters, ice axe, or a bottom pocket (Dirty 30 documents those; 24Seven does not).
  • Your budget is far below $352, or you cannot wait on a backpack lead time currently up to six months.

24Seven for the 24 L X-Pac recipe and $352. Dirty 30 ECO for the larger Dirty volume documentation and EPLX200 at $385. Measure the kit.

Final verdict

Is the Hilltop Packs 24Seven worth buying?

Buy 24Seven if Hilltop’s own uses match yours—everyday, day hikes, or backpacking with a kit that already fits 24 L—and you want the 15 oz, VX21/VX07, $352 listing.

Choose Raven instead if you need 35–50 L of main body, a padded belt, V4 options, or a published trail-weight window.

Choose Dirty 30 instead if you want more documented body volume than 24 L and EPLX200 rather than this X-Pac mix.

Look elsewhere if you need a frame, a big-box price, same-week shipping, or a pack Hilltop actually labels for thru-hiking. This Hilltop Packs 24Seven Trail Backpack review does not name a universal winner.
