Vantrue N5S review: this is a specification-based look at Vantrue’s current Nexus 5S (N5S) 4-channel dash cam—front road, front cabin, rear cabin, and rear road—recording together at up to 1944P + 1080P + 1080P + 1440P (30fps). It is for buyers who need cabin coverage, not another front-and-rear road camera. Four STARVIS 2 cameras and infrared cabin recording are the differentiator. The biggest limitation is installation, storage, and footage to manage. Moon Picke has not installed or driven with this unit.

Vantrue N5S Review: Quick Verdict
Is the Vantrue N5S worth buying? Consider it if you need four documented viewing angles—road ahead, road behind, and two cabin views—and you will hardwire it for parking. Skip it if a 2-channel road setup is enough, you do not want interior cameras, or you want cigarette-plug simplicity. This is a buyer-fit verdict from Vantrue’s official specs and listing, not a road test.
What Is the Vantrue N5S?
Vantrue’s official name is the Nexus 5S, sold as the Vantrue N5S. It is not the older Vantrue N5. The N5S uses STARVIS 2 sensors on all four channels, records the rear-road camera at 1440P, supports microSD cards up to 1TB, and can accept Vantrue’s optional LT01 LTE module. This review covers Amazon kit ASIN B0F8BWJHW4 only—not N5, N4 Pro, N4, or E360.
It is a true 4-channel dash cam in Vantrue’s documented sense: four physical cameras can record at once. It is not a spherical 360-degree camera. Coverage is four overlapping cones. Side-of-car events can still miss those views.
The box includes the front recorder (front-road plus front-cabin lenses, 3.19-inch IPS screen), the rear dual-lens module (rear-road plus rear-cabin), GPS adhesive mount, 11.5 ft car charger, 20 ft rear cable, USB-C data cable, electrostatic stickers, crowbar, cable clips, and a quick-start guide. The microSD card, ACC hardwire kit, 40mm CPL, remote, and LT01 LTE module are optional. The manual says a microSD card is required to operate.
Parking has four working modes, 10-second buffered pre-recording on motion events, and a separate hardwire for proper 24/7 use. Connectivity is 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, built-in GPS, and the Vantrue app. LTE/cloud is not built in.

How the Four-Camera System Works
Is the Vantrue N5S really a 4-channel dash cam? Yes, if you mean four simultaneous video channels from four lenses. Hardware is a two-piece kit: the windshield unit holds the front-road and front-cabin cameras; the rear-window unit holds the rear-road and rear-cabin cameras.
Camera 1 — front road. Windshield-facing evidence channel. Vantrue: 158°, F1.8, STARVIS 2 IMX675, WDR.
Camera 2 — front cabin. Same housing, about 160°, STARVIS 2 IMX662, WDR, IR LEDs. Driver and front-passenger view.
Camera 3 — rear cabin. Rear module, inward lens, 160°, STARVIS 2 IMX662, HDR, IR LEDs. Rear seats, cargo, or more of the cabin depending on aim. Rotatable aiming is not extra channels.
Camera 4 — rear road. Outward rear lens, 165°, STARVIS 2 IMX675, HDR, 1440P in 4-channel mode. That is higher than the older N5’s 1080P rear-road camera, and still not equal to the front’s 1944P.
Blind spots remain: there are no dedicated exterior side cameras. Pillars, tint, headrests, a high spoiler, or a blocked cabin lens still hide events. More cameras improve coverage. They do not record everything.

Recording Resolution Across All Four Channels
This is not a “4K 4-channel dash cam.” Vantrue’s highest 4-channel combination is 1944P + 1080P + 1080P + 1440P at 30fps. The front can run 2592×1944P 30fps in front-only mode. That headline number is not what every camera records when all four channels are on.
The manual also lists 3-channel and 2-channel combinations that keep 1944P on the front while dropping unused streams, plus lower matrices such as 1440P+720P+720P+1440P. Processor limits are why multi-channel cameras publish a matrix instead of one resolution. If maximum front detail is the only goal, 4-channel is not automatically sharper than a strong 2-channel kit. If you need interior files on the same incident, the N5S stack is the point. For resolution basics this review does not own, see 4K vs 2K dash cam.
Cabin Cameras and Infrared Recording
The Vantrue N5S interior camera pair is why 4-channel exists. Front-cabin and rear-cabin views help rideshare or taxi work, fleet disputes, family-seat monitoring, or a passenger-side event a road camera will never see. That is product fit, not a rideshare buying guide.
IR is documented on both cabin cameras (Automatic, Always On, Off). Vantrue’s product page notes four IR LEDs on the rear-cabin camera. IR is for a dark cabin. It is not the exterior night-driving system, and it is not a claim of perfect facial identification, unlimited range, or guaranteed evidence. IR cabin video is often closer to monochrome than a lit color cabin shot.
Audio/video recording laws and consent requirements vary by jurisdiction. Verify local rules. This is not legal advice. If you do not want interior video, two of the four cameras are unused hardware you still mount and store.
Front and Rear Road Coverage
Road-facing files still decide most crash arguments. In 4-channel mode the N5S uses a 1944P front and a 1440P rear, with WDR on the front and HDR on the rear. The rear-road camera is not equal to the front. That is a documented trade-off.
If you only care about those two road views, the broader category lives in best front and rear dash cam. This Vantrue N5S review does not rank 2-channel kits. A second Vantrue N5S review point is simply whether 1440P rear-road plus cabins beat a cleaner 2CH install. Exterior night recording is a STARVIS 2 + WDR/HDR problem (sensor, exposure, motion, lighting). That is separate from cabin IR. This article does not claim plate-read distances.
Storage Requirements for Four Channels
Four-channel recording is a storage purchase. Vantrue specifies 32GB–1TB microSD, U3 or faster, not included. Loop recording can be 1, 3, or 5 minutes, or off. Files are tagged by channel (A front, B front cabin, C rear cabin, D rear).
Vantrue does not publish GB-per-hour for every 4-channel mode here, so this article will not invent hours-per-card. Four 30fps streams plus parking events fill a card faster than a similar 2-channel kit. Buy and format a large U3 card in the camera before installation day; 1TB is the documented ceiling.

Parking Mode and Power Requirements
Does the Vantrue N5S have parking mode? Yes. The manual lists Collision Detection, Motion Detection, Low Bitrate Recording, and Low Frame Rate Recording, plus Off (the record-menu default). Vantrue’s product page and Amazon listing say a hardwire kit is required (sold separately; Amazon cites ASIN B08S392SMK). The manual prefers Vantrue’s ACC kit because other ACC pinouts may not detect ignition correctly.
Collision detection uses the G-sensor (sensitivity 1–5) and can wake from shutdown for a short clip. Quick Start stays in screen-off standby; Power Saving powers down until impact. Motion detection needs continuous power (ranges Vantrue maps to about 2 / 4 / 6 meters) and adds 10 seconds of buffered video before the trigger, then about 30 seconds after.
Low bitrate parking uses 1080P 15fps or 720P 15fps while powered. Low frame rate parking uses 1 / 5 / 10 / 15 fps. Time-lapse is a separate option (default Off). None of this is unlimited 24/7 recording independent of power and card space.
Category context: best dash cam for parking mode and dash cam hardwire kit vs OBD cable.

Wi-Fi, GPS and App Workflow
Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (manual default 5 GHz) and auto-off after 10 minutes if unused. The Vantrue app can preview four windows, change settings, download and play clips, and export mileage. GPS can stamp speed and location. Four channels often mean four files per incident (A/B/C/D). This article does not invent transfer speeds. Voice control is documented; Bluetooth is not in the specification table used here. Optional LT01 LTE is required for live view; it is not in ASIN B0F8BWJHW4.
Installation: The Main Cost of Four Channels
Four-channel coverage only works if every lens is aimed and cables are routed without blocking the driver or airbags. Vantrue: clean glass, electrostatic stickers, press the GPS mount, format the card, then route the 20 ft rear cable and 11.5 ft power lead with the included clips. The front unit slides off a split adhesive GPS mount. Do not obstruct driving view. Vantrue also warns against placing the unit directly in front of passengers if it could detach.
You mount two housings, aim four lenses, and hide a long rear cable—more work than front-only. Larger vehicles may need Vantrue’s extended rear cable. Parking still wants a fuse-box ACC hardwire. Do not run cables over airbag panels; use vehicle guidance or a professional installer.

Vantrue N5S vs a 2-Channel Dash Cam
This is a fit table, not a brand war and not a “best 4-channel dash cam” list.
| Factor | Vantrue N5S / 4CH | Typical 2CH |
|---|---|---|
| Road coverage | Front + rear | Front + rear |
| Cabin coverage | Front cabin + rear cabin | Usually limited or none |
| Installation | Two modules, four aims, long rear cable, hardwire for parking | Simpler |
| Storage demand | Higher (four streams) | Lower |
| Footage management | More files per incident | Simpler |
| Rideshare relevance | Stronger if cabin files matter | Varies |
| Best fit | Multi-angle coverage you will review | Conventional road evidence |
If cabin video is unused, a 2-channel road kit is the more honest purchase. Vantrue versus VIOFO as brands belongs on Vantrue vs VIOFO, not in an N5S-versus-A329S table here.
What the Vantrue N5S Does Well
- Documented 4-channel architecture — front road, front cabin, rear cabin, rear road.
- STARVIS 2 on all four channels — the N5S step versus the mixed-sensor N5.
- Specified cabin IR — interior low-light, not a substitute for exterior night recording.
- Parking menu, if you hardwire — collision, motion (10s buffer), low bitrate, low frame rate.
- 1TB U3 ceiling, GPS, dual-band Wi-Fi, on-unit screen — four-channel review without requiring LTE.
Vantrue N5S Limitations
- Installation tax — two housings, four angles, 20 ft rear cable, separate hardwire for parking.
- Storage and file load — large U3 card required; none included in the Amazon kit.
- Cabin cameras unused for many drivers — privacy and “I only wanted the bumper” both argue for 2-channel.
- LTE/cloud optional — remote live view is not in the base camera.
- Parking is not magic 24/7 — motion/low-bitrate need continuous power; collision power-saving depends on G-sensor wake. Low-voltage protection is on the hardwire kit.
Who Should Buy the Vantrue N5S?
Buy it if you are a rideshare, taxi, or fleet driver who needs cabin files; a family or cargo driver who wants rear-seat or trunk context; or anyone who will finish a four-lens install and manage a large card. Skip it if you only need road front/rear coverage, want plug-and-play power, refuse cabin recording, require built-in LTE, or will not review four folders of clips. Broader rideshare roundups belong to a later Moon Picke article.
Is the Vantrue N5S Worth Buying in 2026?
Is the Vantrue N5S worth buying? Yes if four-channel coverage has a real job, cabin IR matters, you will hardwire parking, and you will buy a 1TB-class U3 card. Skip it if 2-channel road coverage is enough, cabin cameras will stare at a headrest, simple installation matters more, or you need built-in cloud access. That is a conditional hardware recommendation, not a score out of 10.
Final Verdict
This Vantrue N5S review is about one kit: Vantrue Nexus 5S, Amazon 4-channel B0F8BWJHW4, four STARVIS 2 cameras at up to 1944P+1080P+1080P+1440P. Ideal buyer: someone who will use both cabin channels. Strongest advantage: named four-camera coverage with IR interiors and a real parking-mode menu. Biggest limitation: install, storage, and evidence management. Buy it when those costs are acceptable. If they are not, a 2-channel road camera is cleaner.
