NameSilo vs Namecheap: Which Domain Registrar Is Better in 2026?

A same-day comparison of NameSilo and Namecheap for .com, .net, and .org, including renewal, transfer, privacy, and three-year cost.

By Moon PickePublished Oct 7, 2026Our review process

The better registrar in 2026 depends on how you pay and how long you keep the name. On October 7, 2026, Namecheap’s first-year .com price was lower. NameSilo’s .com renewal was lower, and much lower with the Discount Program and Account Funds. A first-year sale is a weak way to choose a registrar you may keep for years.

Moon Picke may earn a commission if you register or transfer a domain through a NameSilo link. That commission does not decide the winner below. Our affiliate disclosure explains the relationship, and how we evaluate explains the method. No approved Namecheap affiliate link was on file, so Namecheap links in this article go to Namecheap’s own pages. Prices below are the prices published that day. Renewal prices can change.

Quick verdict

Choose NameSilo if you will add at least $50 in Account Funds and leave the Discount Program on. On October 7, 2026, that program priced a .com renewal at $11.05 from the first discounted domain, against a $17.29 retail renewal. Also choose NameSilo if you are transferring a .com and want the lower published transfer price: $10.80, against Namecheap’s $11.48 before Namecheap’s separate $0.20 ICANN fee.

Choose Namecheap if you want the lower first-year .com price and you are comfortable with an $18.48 renewal. The .com page listed $10.98 for a one-year Namecheap Birthday registration, with $14.98 shown as the regular registration price. A separate new-customer offer listed $6.79 for the first year of one domain per user or household. Namecheap’s .com page also states 24/7 customer support.

Overall winner: it depends. For one new .com, paid at the normal checkout and kept three years, Namecheap’s Birthday registration plus two renewals is cheaper than NameSilo’s retail path. For a buyer who will fund a NameSilo account, NameSilo’s Discount Program is cheaper on renewal and on a three-year hold. Neither result is a reason to ignore the other registrar’s limits.

NameSilo vs Namecheap at a glance

Prices were read from each registrar’s site on October 7, 2026. Namecheap adds $0.20 per year for .com, .net, and .org. NameSilo includes ICANN fees by default and prints no separate dollar. Namecheap cells below are before that $0.20.

NameSilo prices on October 7, 2026

NameSilo .com, .net, and .org registration prices with retail and Discount Program columns
NameSilo’s registration table, checked October 7, 2026, separates retail prices from Discount Program prices. Crossed-out figures are the regular price after a promotion ends.

A .com registration was $17.29 for 1–49 domains, $17.19 for 50–100, and $17.09 for 101–500. Discount Program 0+ was $11.05. Higher program columns were on sale: $8.75 at 100+ against $11.00, $8.50 at 500+ against $10.95, $8.30 at 1,000+ against $10.90, $8.15 at 2,500+ against $10.85, and $8.00 at 5,000+ against $10.80.

A .net registration was $15.95 for 1–49 domains and $11.85 in the Discount Program 0+ column. A .org registration was on sale at $10.79 for 1–49 domains, with $14.99 crossed out as the regular price. The Discount Program 0+ price for .org was $9.29, with $13.49 crossed out.

Those Discount Program prices are not the price a new visitor pays by default. NameSilo’s Discount Program article says the only requirement is paying with Account Funds. Adding funds has a $50 minimum. Coupons cannot be combined with the program. Drop-catching orders are excluded. You can turn the program off, and then you pay the retail column.

Namecheap prices on October 7, 2026

Namecheap .com registration, renewal, and transfer prices for one through five years
Namecheap’s .com price table on October 7, 2026 lists a Namecheap Birthday registration sale, a separate renewal row, and a one-year transfer sale.

Namecheap’s .com page listed a one-year registration at $10.98, labeled Namecheap Birthday, with $14.98 regular. Prepaid registration was $25.96 for two years, $40.94 for three, $55.92 for four, and $70.90 for five, against regular totals of $29.96, $44.94, $59.92, and $74.90. Later years inside that prepaid term use the $14.98 registration price, not the $18.48 renewal. A separate new-customer line listed $6.79 for the first year of one domain per user or household. That is not the Birthday price and not the renewal.

Renewal was $18.48 a year. Transfer was $11.48, labeled 23% off, with $14.98 crossed out. A transfer-page banner advertised code BDAYTRANSFER26 for up to 30% off select transfers. The price table still showed $11.48, and that code was not applied at checkout, so $11.48 is the transfer price used here.

Namecheap’s ICANN fee page, modified June 12, 2026, says ICANN charges $0.20 per year for registration, renewal, or transfer, and that the fee is added to the listed price where it applies. The affected-extension list includes .com, .net, and .org. A three-year .com therefore picks up $0.60 on top of the numbers in the price table.

.net and .org

Namecheap’s .net page listed a one-year registration at $12.48, called 17% off the first year, with $14.98 regular. Renewal was $18.58. Transfer was $12.98, called 13% off, with $14.98 regular. The .org page listed registration at $8.48, called 41% off the first year, with $14.48 regular. Renewal was $18.98. Transfer was $12.28, called 15% off, with $14.48 regular. The same $0.20 ICANN fee applies to both extensions.

NameSilo’s .net renewal was $15.95 retail and $11.85 at Discount Program 0+. Its .org renewal was $14.99 retail and $13.49 at 0+. NameSilo’s transfer tab listed .net at $11.35 against a crossed-out $15.95, and .org at $11.99 with no crossed-out price.

Registration versus renewal

NameSilo renewal prices for .com, .net, and .org across retail and volume tiers
NameSilo’s renewal tab shows no separate first-year sale on .com. The Discount Program columns are lower than retail and require Account Funds.

NameSilo says it does not charge more to renew than to register, except for .mobi and special promotions. A standard .com matched: $17.29 retail either way, and $11.05 on the Discount Program 0+ tier either way. The .org sale is an exception. Registration was $10.79 and renewal was $14.99.

Namecheap’s $18.48 .com renewal is higher than both the $10.98 Birthday registration and the $14.98 regular registration. The disclaimer limits the special offer to new first-year registrations, for a limited time, and excludes premium names. Budget $18.48 plus $0.20 when the sale year ends. Prepaying three years at $40.94, or five at $70.90, is a different purchase: later years use the registration price, not the renewal.

Three-year .com ownership cost

The three-year figure requested for this comparison is year-one registration plus a year-two renewal plus a year-three renewal. It uses the prices published on October 7, 2026. Future renewal prices can change, so this is a current-rate illustration, not a contract.

Path Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Three-year total
NameSilo retail $17.29 $17.29 $17.29 $51.87
NameSilo Discount Program, 0+ domains $11.05 $11.05 $11.05 $33.15
Namecheap Birthday, then two renewals $10.98 $18.48 $18.48 $47.94, then +$0.60 ICANN = $48.54
Namecheap regular registration, then two renewals $14.98 $18.48 $18.48 $51.94, then +$0.60 ICANN = $52.54
Namecheap new-customer $6.79, then two renewals $6.79 $18.48 $18.48 $43.75, then +$0.60 ICANN = $44.35

After the ICANN fee, Namecheap’s Birthday path is $3.33 below NameSilo retail ($48.54 versus $51.87). At Namecheap’s regular $14.98 registration, NameSilo retail is $0.67 lower ($51.87 versus $52.54). The Discount Program total of $33.15 is $15.39 below the Birthday path, and only if the account is funded. The $6.79 new-customer path is $44.35 with ICANN fees: below NameSilo retail, above the Discount Program, and limited to one domain.

Over five sequential years, NameSilo retail is $86.45 and the Discount Program 0+ path is $55.25. Namecheap’s Birthday path is $85.90 after $1.00 of ICANN fees. Its prepaid five-year Birthday registration is a different product, $71.90 after that fee, which beats NameSilo retail and loses to the Discount Program. On .net, three years is $47.85 at NameSilo retail, $35.55 on the Discount Program, and $50.24 at Namecheap after ICANN fees. On .org, NameSilo’s sale year plus two renewals is $40.77, against Namecheap’s $47.04 after ICANN fees. NameSilo’s crossed-out .org registration price was $14.99, the same as its renewal.

Transferring a .com you already own

NameSilo transfer prices for .com, .net, and .org, including the one-year extension note
NameSilo’s transfer tab states that a one-year extension is included. The .com sale price is lower than the crossed-out regular price.
Namecheap domain transfer page with bulk options, a .com transfer price, and a one-year renewal note
Namecheap’s transfer page shows a Bulk Options control, a .com transfer price, and a note that remaining time is added to a one-year renewal.

If you already own a .com somewhere else, the relevant price is the transfer price, not the new-registration sale. On October 7, NameSilo listed a .com transfer at $10.80, with $11.95 crossed out. The page says a one-year extension is added to the expiration date and is included in that price. Namecheap listed $11.48, with $14.98 crossed out, and its transfer page says remaining time is added to a one-year renewal. After Namecheap’s $0.20 ICANN fee, that transfer is $11.68. NameSilo is $0.88 lower on those published figures.

The extra year is not universal. Namecheap adds it for extensions ICANN or the registry requires to be renewed. Several .uk and .im names are excluded, and .ai transfers include two years. If the domain expired and was renewed at the old registrar within the last 45 days, Namecheap says the extra year may be withheld. A .com, .net, or .org also has to be at least 60 days old and unlocked, and you need the authorization code. Namecheap says completion usually takes 30 minutes to six days. No transfer was submitted for this article.

WHOIS privacy

NameSilo list of included domain features, including free WHOIS privacy and Domain Defender
NameSilo’s pricing page lists WHOIS privacy, DNS, email forwarding, portfolio tools, and Domain Defender as included with a domain.
Namecheap DNS, email forwarding, DNSSEC, and free lifetime domain privacy description
Namecheap’s .com page describes BasicDNS, URL and email forwarding, DNSSEC on eligible domains, and free lifetime privacy for eligible registrations.

Free WHOIS privacy still has limits. NameSilo’s pricing page lists it as always free, with email forwarding, Domain Defender, and DNS. Some country-code extensions cannot use it. Namecheap’s .com, .net, and .org pages say privacy is free for life through Withheld for Privacy, and the disclaimer says a handful of extensions are excluded. On the three extensions checked, privacy was not a separate charge at either registrar, so privacy is a tie. The money difference is renewal price, not the privacy line.

DNS, DNSSEC, and email forwarding

Both include DNS management and domain forwarding. Email forwarding is not a mailbox. It sends mail to an inbox you already have.

Namecheap’s .com page says URL and email forwarding sit with its DNS service, and that DNSSEC is standard on eligible domains. The disclaimer limits both claims to domains that use Namecheap DNS. DNSSEC is part of BasicDNS or PremiumDNS. PremiumDNS is a separate paid product, listed at $4.88 per year on that page. BasicDNS is the free service. A one-month private-email trial is a mailbox trial, not forwarding.

NameSilo lists DNS tools, email forwarding, and domain forwarding as included. A separate NameSilo DNSSEC settings page was not opened for this comparison, so DNSSEC is not scored as a win for either registrar. Moving a domain to third-party nameservers means following that DNS host’s own steps.

Security

This comparison did not log in, did not toggle a lock, and did not test two-factor authentication. Namecheap’s help center says two-factor authentication is free, as an authenticator app or a U2F key, and that both methods cannot be on together. It also documents a registrar lock you remove before a transfer out. NameSilo lists Domain Defender in the free set. A Domain Defender settings page was not opened, and the pricing page does not claim a domain cannot be compromised. Both can mask eligible WHOIS records. On the pages opened, security is a tie.

Bulk tools and portfolio management

NameSilo’s public table is the portfolio tool you can see without an account. Registration and renewal step down across 50, 100, 500, 1,000, 2,500, and 5,000 domains, and the Discount Program has its own columns from the first domain. Its domain-manager help also describes filters for extension, privacy, portfolio, auto-renew, and lock status. Those filters were not clicked inside a logged-in account.

Namecheap’s .com, .net, and .org tables do not show volume columns. The transfer form does: up to 50 names at once, one per line, with an authorization code after a comma. That is the clearest public bulk tool Namecheap showed. Its API can list domains and set locks, which is a developer interface rather than a button. No logged-in bulk-renew screen was opened at either registrar.

Volume discounts

NameSilo’s retail .com registration already moves from $17.29 at 1–49 domains to $17.19 at 50–100 and $17.09 at 101–500. The Discount Program is separate: Account Funds, a $50 minimum deposit, and no coupon stacking. At 0+ domains the .com price is $11.05 to register and to renew. Sale prices such as $8.75 at 100+ domains are promotional. The crossed-out figure is the program price after the sale. Namecheap’s .com, .net, and .org tables had no matching volume column on October 7. Its savings were first-year sales, prepaid multi-year totals, and the $6.79 new-customer .com offer.

Expiration, grace, and redemption

NameSilo’s expiration process counts expiration day as day 1. For a standard extension, days 1–30 are a grace period: the site stops, parking nameservers go on from day 1, and you can still renew or transfer at the standard rate through day 30. Days 31–40 the name leaves the account and is auctioned. A winning bid takes it. If no bid succeeds, it can be restored from day 41 through day 64 for a fee that varies by extension and may or may not include a renewal year. NameSilo does not print a .com dollar amount for that fee. Days 65–69 are pending delete, and the name can return to the public around days 70–71. Restorations are not refundable. Registration refunds are limited to three days. A transfer can be canceled before it completes, with a refund inside 59 days.

Namecheap’s grace-period article, updated May 21, 2026, says a .com, .net, or .org can be renewed at the regular rate for about 30 days after expiration. The site and mail stop. If you miss that window, the name may be auctioned, and if it is not, it can enter a redemption period of about 30 days. The redemption table lists .com at $88.48 and says that figure adds the redemption fee and the renewal price. The grace article also adds a $0.20 ICANN fee for generic extensions. Those two notes are published separately, so this article does not invent a combined total. Namecheap then describes five days of pending delete and a release roughly 70–80 days after expiration if the name was not auctioned or restored. Some country-code extensions must be renewed days before they expire.

Both offer auto-renew. NameSilo’s guide lists reminder email 30 days before expiration, again at 7 days, and again at expiration. Namecheap says auto-renew can use the account balance or a card. Neither switch was turned on for this article.

Ease of use

No domain was registered, transferred, or unlocked for this article. The comparison of ease is limited to public pages. Namecheap puts .com registration, renewal, and transfer on one table, and the transfer page is a search box plus Bulk Options. NameSilo uses separate tabs, and the registration table is wide because of the volume columns. The Discount Program is an account switch: the lower price applies only after you fund the account. For one name, Namecheap’s table is easier to scan. For a 100-name renewal, NameSilo’s columns answer a question Namecheap’s table does not. That is not a timed usability test.

Support

Namecheap’s .com, .net, and .org pages say 24/7 customer support, and the site links to a knowledge base, tickets, and live chat. NameSilo links to a support catalog and Live Chat. No ticket, chat, or call was placed. Printed hours are not a quality score. On the hours each site states, Namecheap lists the broader clock.

Best for one domain

For a single .com this year, Namecheap’s $10.98 Birthday price, or $6.79 if you qualify as a new customer, is below NameSilo’s $17.29 retail registration. Add $0.20 a year. Renew at $18.48 or prepay the term at the registration rate. NameSilo retail is the pick only if you want registration and renewal to match at $17.29 without funding an account. That three-year edge is small, and it depends on Namecheap’s sale still being available.

Best for several domains

NameSilo’s Discount Program price starts at the first domain once Account Funds are on, so a handful of names can renew at $11.05 without waiting for a 100-name tier. Retail .com registration also steps down at 50 domains. Namecheap is reasonable when each name is a new registration on sale and you prepay the term. It does not publish a lower renewal as the count grows. For the move itself, Namecheap accepts 50 names in one form. NameSilo’s lower .com transfer price matters more if those names will then renew for years on the Discount Program.

Best for domain investors

Investors pay renewal, transfer, and recovery prices. NameSilo publishes renewal columns through 5,000 domains, a .com transfer at $10.80, and an expiration calendar with an auction on days 31–40 and restoration through day 64. It does not print a .com restoration dollar amount. Namecheap fits a prepaid multi-year buy or a 50-name transfer. It is the weaker default for a stack of .com renewals at $18.48 plus $0.20, against $11.05 on NameSilo’s Discount Program. Its $88.48 .com redemption listing is a reason to renew inside the grace period. NameSilo drop-catch orders do not get Discount Program prices.

Who should choose NameSilo?

Choose NameSilo when the names will be renewed, transferred, or held in bulk and you will pay from Account Funds. On October 7 the Discount Program priced a .com at $11.05 to register and $11.05 to renew, and a .com transfer at $10.80 with a year included. Privacy, DNS, email forwarding, and Domain Defender are listed as included. Without the program, NameSilo’s retail three-year total loses to Namecheap’s Birthday path. A commission on a NameSilo link is not a reason to pick the higher retail registration price.

Who should choose Namecheap?

Choose Namecheap for one .com, or a few new names, when you want the first-year price that was on the page: $10.98 on the Birthday sale, or $6.79 for one new-customer domain. Prepaying three years at $40.94, or five years at $70.90, uses the registration rate for those years instead of the $18.48 renewal. Add $0.20 per year. Eligible privacy is included, the product pages state 24/7 support, and the transfer form accepts up to 50 names. The clearer single-name price table is a layout fact, not a completed purchase.

FAQ

Is NameSilo better than Namecheap?

NameSilo is the better fit when renewal price and a funded Discount Program matter. Namecheap is the better fit when the first-year .com price and stated 24/7 support matter. On October 7, 2026, neither registrar won every row. Privacy on eligible .com, .net, and .org names was included at both, and security features were not tested head to head.

Is NameSilo cheaper than Namecheap?

NameSilo is cheaper on .com renewal: $17.29 retail, or $11.05 with the Discount Program, against Namecheap’s $18.48 before a $0.20 ICANN fee. Namecheap is cheaper on a normal first-year .com registration: $10.98 on the Birthday sale, or $6.79 for one new-customer domain, against NameSilo’s $17.29 retail. The Discount Program price requires Account Funds and a $50 minimum deposit.

Which registrar has the cheaper .com renewal?

NameSilo. The renewal tab on October 7 listed $17.29 at retail and $11.05 in the Discount Program column for the first tier, with further columns down to $10.80 at 5,000 or more domains. Namecheap listed $18.48 per year, and its ICANN fee page adds $0.20 for .com. The Namecheap Birthday discount does not apply to that renewal row.

Which is cheaper over three years?

It depends on the path. NameSilo retail is $51.87. Namecheap’s Birthday registration plus two renewals is $48.54 after $0.60 of ICANN fees, so Namecheap is $3.33 lower. Namecheap at the regular $14.98 registration is $52.54 after those fees, so NameSilo retail is $0.67 lower. NameSilo’s Discount Program total is $33.15, which is the lowest of the paths if you fund the account. These totals use October 7 prices and can change.

Which is cheaper for a .com transfer?

NameSilo, on the prices published October 7. A .com transfer was $10.80, with $11.95 shown as the regular price, and the page includes a one-year extension. Namecheap listed $11.48, with $14.98 regular, plus a $0.20 ICANN fee, for $11.68. Namecheap says the extra year can be withheld if you renewed an already expired domain at the old registrar within the previous 45 days.

Which registrar includes WHOIS privacy?

Both include it for eligible extensions, including the .com, .net, and .org pages checked on October 7. NameSilo lists WHOIS privacy as free with the domain. Namecheap describes free lifetime privacy through Withheld for Privacy and says a handful of extensions are excluded. Privacy was not a separate charge on those three extensions at either registrar.

Which is better for several domains?

NameSilo, if you will use Account Funds. The Discount Program price applies from the first domain, and the public table shows further breaks at higher counts. Namecheap is better for the first year of a small group of new registrations on sale, and its transfer form accepts up to 50 names at once. Namecheap’s renewal tables do not step down as the portfolio grows.

Which is better for domain investors?

NameSilo, for a portfolio that will be renewed, because the published .com renewal can be $11.05 instead of Namecheap’s $18.48 plus $0.20. Namecheap can still be the right counterparty for a prepaid multi-year buy or a 50-name transfer. NameSilo’s restoration fee has no published .com dollar amount. Namecheap lists a .com redemption price of $88.48, with a separate $0.20 ICANN note.

Which registrar has better security?

There is no measured winner. Namecheap documents free two-factor authentication, either an app or a security key, and a registrar lock. NameSilo lists Domain Defender as an included protection. Both offer privacy on eligible domains. This project did not enable either control or attempt an account takeover test, so the comparison stops at what the companies publish.

Should I transfer from Namecheap to NameSilo?

Transfer if the names will renew for several years and you will use NameSilo Account Funds, because the renewal gap is larger than the transfer fee. A .com transfer to NameSilo was $10.80 with a year included. Staying at Namecheap costs $18.48 plus $0.20 each renewal. Wait if the name was renewed after expiration in the last 45 days, and remember the usual 60-day lock after a registration or transfer. This is a price comparison, not a completed move.

Final verdict

Namecheap is the better buy for a new .com at the October 7 first-year price, if you accept an $18.48 renewal or prepay at the registration rate. NameSilo is the better buy when the name will be renewed or transferred and you will use the Discount Program. At retail, three-year totals are close: $51.87 at NameSilo, and $48.54 or $52.54 at Namecheap after ICANN fees. A NameSilo commission does not change those totals. Check the live tables before you pay. These figures are a same-day record, and renewal prices can change.
